Burns St, Elwood

A bold reimagining of a Spanish Mission-style home for a family of five. Lucy Bowen Design led the transformation, blending American-inspired detailing, such as exposed timber beams and curved render, with a reverence for the original structure. The rear of the house was completely demolished and a 50m² basement was discreetly introduced beneath the existing heritage envelope, supported by meticulous underpinning.

The curved and rendered kitchen and fireplace add sculptural uniqueness and beauty to the home. The outcome is both expressive and edited a family home with presence and a sense of balance between drama and restraint.

Construction commenced January 2020, completed March 2021
